At the heart of my profession and passion, I am ultimately an artist. Erich Mendelsohn said it best when he wrote, "to think about architecture it to dream about space". I want my work to live amongst the world, to experience life, and ultimately have a sense of place and a home through an act of loving abandonment.
ABOUT ME
Jovanni Carter-Davis is an urban designer and architectural planner with 10+ years of experience across industries. She currently serves as an urban designer at Perkins&Will, a global firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with 26 offices, internationally.
As a multidisciplinary strategist, Jovanni partners with companies and communities to co-design and aesthetically enhance public space. She works directly with architects, engineers, and contractors to support direct implementation for residential, commercial, mixed-use, and transit-oriented design projects.
Jovanni has a background in sustainable design and leverages community-centered and human-scale focused practices to drive community development. She has a track record of success working on community engagement and development in mid to large-scale cities, including: New Orleans, LA, St. Louis, MO, Springdale and Fayetteville, AR, Lincoln, NE and Los Angeles and Sacramento, CA.
Prior to joining Perkins & Will, Jovanni was a Sr. Urban Designer and Project Manager at H3 Studio where she led the rezone of the New Orleans central business district. She has held various roles at architecture firms on the West Coast.
A historic preservationist by trade, Jovanni also has experience in working to designate cities or structures as historic sites. She holds a Masters in Urban Design and a Masters in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies and Historic Preservation from the University of Pittsburgh.
A native of San Diego, Jovanni is currently based in Los Angeles, California.
